The term, ‘Equity Mining’ describes a strategy normally employed by a car dealer or finance company, where an existing portfolio of finance customers is analysed (or ‘mined’) for the purpose of identifying those individuals who may owe less in outstanding finance than the current trade value of their car. This is known as being in ‘Positive Equity’. Individuals with Positive Equity present the vehicle or finance provider with a unique opportunity to supply a new or younger vehicle at a similar monthly amount to the existing finance agreement.
